SQL Server Hosting

Business these days only moves as fast as the technology you have to move it. The immense amount of data collected from every business transaction in the digital age is constantly being used by businesses around the world to streamline their marketing, focus their sales, and strengthen their process. Profits are up across the board even in a slumping economy for companies that have taken full advantage of all the electronic resources that are available out there to help improve the way business is done and make sure to take full advantage of the numbers and statistics you have available. Businesses run on numbers and statistics, and while it used to be that you had to wait weeks to get an accurate set of numbers to react to in your business, and wait for that data to disseminate through your company, now annual reports are no longer a means of focusing research. Your marketing, sales, production, and customer services teams need results in real time about who's buying, who's selling, and where to best direct their efforts. Putting the power in the hands of every individual employee to access and amalgamate this data into something useful for their own purposes is extremely useful, and what allows them to do it is the technology of SQL server hosting.

SQL server hosting is a service provided by a third party company which allows your company to save on the costs of buying expensive servers and hiring the trained and expensive IT professionals it would take to program and maintain those services. Server hosting is exactly what it sounds like, as long as what it sounds like is another company hosting a server that is dedicated to serving the purposes your company contracts that server to be used for. It's basically the same a phone or electric company in that it would be too expensive to have all of the equipment to connect phone lines or produce electricity on your own, so you contract it out to another company. In this case, instead of phone service or electricity,  you're contracting out to use someone else's server equipment to provide SQL server hosting.

But what is SQL you ask? Well, that is a slightly more complicated answer, but we'll try to break it down in the simplest way possible. SQL stands for standard query language, and it is a computing protocol that allows a computer to sort through massive amounts of data stored in a data base in a rational and efficient way so as to be able to provide you with relevant results to your searches. Clear as mud? Okay, well let's clear it up a little further. Any data collected by your business, whether it be from sales transactions, accounts payable, payroll, marketing data, whatever; it's all stored in a central database or series of databases in a system of charts. When I say system, I'm talking about a series of literally hundreds to thousands of charts all with different sets of data. SQL is a means of teaching your computer to integrate these different charts using relational data. For example, you could combine several different data charts to find out how many 34-50 year old males living on the East Coast have clicked your advertisements versus how many 25-29 year old females living on the west coast have bought your products in the last three years from a major retailer rather than from a specialty vendor. Why you would need to compare those specific numbers, I'm not entirely sure, but SQL is what allows your computer to turn your requests for that data into something it can understand, and for it to mine through millions of different pieces of data and quickly cross analyze and produce a set of data which gives you coherent answers you were looking for.

SQL server hosting then, is simply the service when another company provides a server through which your customers or employees can access SQL realted services to examine and analyze the data in your company database. Hope that clears up your understanding about SQL server hosting.
